My ‘semi fictionalized’ story, published in The Font magazine in April 2021, is an account of invigilating a shambolic online English language test in sweltering desert heat while global COVID alarm and restriction is at its highest. Malfunctioning software, rogue students exploiting the chaos, mystifying management instructions and the stench of raw sewage all contribute to the portrait of truly atrocious working conditions. Based on my experiences of similar days at a certain university in Saudi Arabia, the ‘Hollywood Disclaimer’ applies: all similarities to persons living or dead are purely coincidental!
